Health Outcomes Indaba a Huge Success!


From the 11-13 October 2016, the Western Cape Department of Health hosted a Health Outcomes Indaba at Club Mykononos, Langebaan. The theme, "Living, learning and working together to improve patient’s outcomes in the Western Cape” was the key focus and CaSIPO was privileged to be a part of this wonderful experience.

Adhering to ART Prolongs Life!

Strict adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is key to sustained HIV suppression, reduced risk of drug resistance, improved overall health, quality of life, and survival as well as decreased risk of HIV transmission. We continue our Journey at Chatsworth Hospice and meet a patient who is a living example of the importance of adhering to ART.

World TB Day Wrap

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed each year on 24 March. This year, the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa along with the CaSIPO Project (Care and support for improved patient outcomes) embraced the theme from the South African Department of Health which was: “Tracking TB in communities”.

Living Hope’s campaign: #ChildTBMustFall

The campaign aims to mobilize and encourage all Community members in the Cape Metro, and foreign nationals in our Municipality to be screened/tested. It is a Month-long programme; and has support from the Health Department as well as the CaSIPO Project and HPCA. (Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa)

Leandro’s TB Journey

In today's article we feature a first hand experience of how a patient was successfully treated for MDR-TB.

My name is Leandro Valentyn and this is my story of how I was treated for MDR-TB. In the beginning before I knew I had MDR-TB, my body began to feel very weak so I decided to go to the clinic; I sat on a chair until they called me in and asked me what the matter was. I told them that my body was weak and that I felt very tired, sweated at night and coughed non-stop.
