Born in a family of Doctors my only choice in career was to practice Medicine. Graduate of The Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland.
Obtained a Diploma in Obstetrics and a Certificate in Family Planning. Worked in South Africa since 1979 as a GP, Obstetrician and an assistant for gynaecology until the birth of my son. I joined the Highway Hospice in 1997. Obtained a Diploma in Palliative Medicine in Wales, M.Phil. in Palliative Medicine at UCT, the Doctor’s Dispensing Course in 2005 and Clinical HIV Management Course in 2005.
Presently employed by Highway Hospice as Medical Director, Deputy CEO and also head of Education. Chairperson of HAKZN Board from 2015. Also working in the Department of Family Medicine in the Nelson Mandela Medical School as Senior lecturer in palliative medicine for undergraduate students and registrars studying for their Masters in Family Medicine who are doing palliative medicine as a module. External examiner in Palliative Medicine for UCT, Diploma Exams 2004 -2010 and 2015.
