Our Mission Statement
To promote quality in life, dignity in death and support in bereavement for all living with a life-threatening illness by supporting member hospices and partner organisations.
Standards For Palliative Healthcare Services
The 4th edition of the STANDARD FOR PALLIATIVE HEALTHCARE SERVICES
are available free of charge to member organisations and at a fee to anyone else.
These accredited Standards for Palliative Healthcare Services are the only Standards that exist in South Africa for institutions that provide palliative care (aside from hospitals and clinics). The HPCA, the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA) and hospices have worked long and hard on the review of these
Standards and with the international accreditation awarded in December 2020 by ISQua (International Society for Quality in Healthcare), this achievement is a big step towards formalising the policies, systems, procedures, competencies, and resources required at service provider level to deliver vital and quality palliative care for all.
The HPCA offers a mentorship programme on standards implementation to hospices and this platform is available to any other organisations that wish to implement the Standards for Palliative Healthcare Services.
The mentorship programme is structured to assist hospices and other service providers to meet the international standards compliance requirements and to be recommended for an external survey by COHSASA towards the achievement of international accreditation status of the organisation.
