Our Mission Statement
To promote quality in life, dignity in death and support in bereavement for all living with a life-threatening illness by supporting member hospices and partner organisations.

Who the HPCA is:
The Hospice Palliative Care Association (HPCA) is a registered NPO in South Africa. Founded in 1987, the HPCA is a member organisation for South African hospices. As a national charity, the association champions and supports around 89 member organisations that provide hospice services to approximately 100,000 patients and their families per year. HPCA’s member hospices across South Africa care for patients with a variety of life threatening diseases, predominantly in the comfort of their own homes.
What the HPCA provides:
The HPCA works with all of the member and partner organisations to provide quality palliative care in South Africa. This encompasses many elements including the provision of the STANDARD FOR PALLIATIVE HEALTHCARE SERVICES that are provided free to member organisations and at a fee to anyone else.
The HPCA also offers a mentorship programme on standards implementation to hospices and this platform is available to any other organisations that wish to implement the Standards for Palliative Healthcare Services.
Holistic and accredited courses for palliative care are offered. Here is a full list of courses and access to detail and enquiry forms.
In summary, the HPCA services include:
- advocacy and policy support,
- education, training and research,
- QA, mentorship and accreditation, and
- monitoring, evaluation and reporting

The HPCA works with many partner organisations, both locally and internationally to further accelerate access to palliative care and to provide support to their member organisations. As a member of the public, you can donate and support hospices.
